Nick Green, Olympic Gold Medallist, retires
From a press release by James Worrell of Rowing Queensland.
September 29th 1999
At a press conference in Australia today, the members of the
Oarsome Foursome
gathered around Nick as he announced his retirement from the
sport that has earned him numerous World and Olympic Gold medals
along with many friends.
Many of us in Queensland have have come across Nick over the
years, whether it was trying to beat him down the course at
Nationals, watching the Olympics on TV, or laughing at the various
comical advertisements for a certain fruit company. Always
approachable, and friendly, Nick took his
star status in his
stride and would always gladly speak to you or sign an autograph.
He along with the other members of the 4- even managed to find
time, in a hectic international career, to write a book.
All of the Queensland rowing community would like to take this
opportunity to congratulate Nick again on his results and
achievements to date, and wish him the very best for the future.
The job of filling his seat is not an easy one, and we also
wish the remaining members: James Tomkins, Mike McKay, Drew Ginn,
Nigel Sullivan, and Noel Donaldson (coach) the best of luck in
their racing and selections for a seat next year to defend Gold #3.
