SPLASH 1999!

Nominate your favourite sites for a special award.

Splash! The Rowing Service Web Awards of 1999

This year the Rowing Service is creating the Splash! Awards, which will go to the best of the rowing Web. Here's your chance to nominate the colourful, the crazy, the useful and the fascinating websites and homepages - anything to do with rowing. The aim is to reward the best in several different areas.

The nominations will continue over Christmas and New Year, to allow plenty of holiday surfing time. Entries close Monday 3rd January, at which point the judges will whittle the nominations down to shortlists, read your comments, visit the sites and then make their decisions. The Awards will be announced shortly after this date, Millennial Bugs permitting, on the Rowing Service, and on the international rowing newsgroup. The Rowing Service itself is not eligible for the awards.

So, fill in the form below with your nomination for any or all of the categories, and reward those who have been doing so much to keep the online rowing community buzzing. Your email address and name are requested so that we can check with you if there is an inaccurate URL: don't worry, webmasters are allowed to nominate their own sites. Multiple nominations will not necessarily increase a site's chances.....

Categories

  1. Best Rowing Event Site: For the website which adds most to the rowing occasion (race, regatta, party, etc) that it represents. Leaders in this field are likely to be the large well-known events which run annually, but this prize can also go to a site for a one-off event.

  2. Most Awesome Online Picture: This is for the image - graphic or photograph - on the Net which best captures an aspect of rowing. Just remember - in order to publish a picture on your site you MUST have the copyright to it, or have been licensed to publish it by the person who does.

  3. Best Rowing Writing: For the best piece of original writing on the subject currently on the Net. Same copyright situation applies. NB Newsgroup postings are definitely eligible for this one, but they must be republished with the permission of the author, on a stable website. Newspaper articles are also eligible.

  4. Most Useful Club Site: For the website which best supports the efforts of the club, association or federation it belongs to. Artistic design may not be relevant in judging this one.

  5. Top Entertainment Page: This award will go to the page or site nominated which gives the rowing superhighway-traveller the most fun. Could be jokes, pictures, quizzes or interactive games, or just a screwy sense of humour.

  6. Slickest Web Design: The first of two design awards, this one being for the web-construction of the site or page. How quickly and smoothly does the page/site load, navigate, and have the top web-design techniques been used to fluently blend content and style? Note that the judging panel will be using a wide variety of browsers to check these nominations out....

  7. Most Artistic Design: The flip-side of the design coin, this award will go to the most visually appealing site or page.

  8. The Dedication Award: (aka "Hardest-working Webmaster/mistress"). We want to hear your nominations for those who have gone beyond the call of duty in creating and maintaining their rowing sites/pages, keeping all their fans happy whatever the date or time.

  9. Rowing Community Award: An unusual prize this one, for the site or page which has done most in the last year to create or increase a sense of community amongst those who use it. Given the way the Net has of putting people in touch with each other, don't be surprised if this one is popular in those countries which have just joined online rowing-dom.

  10. The Rowing Addict's Site of the Year Award: And this final award picks up all those hard-to-define pages. The ones you just can't resist coming back to, again and again. Tell us which rowing page has had you completely hooked during 1999.
